UNICEF Expert Urges Stronger Action to End Female Genital Mutilation in Nigeria by 2030

UNICEF expert Aderonke Olutayo called for increased stakeholder action to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Nigeria by 2030 during a dialogue in Edo State. Olutayo emphasized the need for stronger coordination and collaboration to end the harmful practice, highlighting the crucial role of men and boys in driving change within communities where FGM is prevalent.

She pointed out barriers such as stigma, limited awareness of protective laws, and lack of support for survivors hindering efforts to eliminate FGM. The dialogue, organized in partnership with the Oyo State Ministry of Information and UNICEF, aimed to raise awareness and promote collective action against FGM.
