Oyo Govt Teams Up with UNICEF to Fight FGM, Enhance Prosecution Efforts

The Oyo State government has partnered with UNICEF to combat Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by enhancing prosecution and response efforts. The collaboration aims to strengthen the justice system's response to FGM-related offenses in Oyo, Edo, Ekiti, and Osun states.

Despite existing laws criminalizing FGM, weak enforcement and limited reporting have hindered progress. The workshop organized by UNICEF seeks to improve collaboration among stakeholders, enhance prosecution capabilities, and protect survivors.

The partnership underscores the urgency to address the prevalence of FGM and ensure the effective implementation of existing legal frameworks.
