Gombe State and UNICEF Launch Child Malnutrition Initiative

The Gombe state government has partnered with UNICEF and the Latter-day Saints Charities (LDSC) to launch a new initiative aimed at preventing malnutrition among mothers and children during the first 1,000 days of life, a crucial period for physical growth and cognitive development. This initiative was unveiled on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting at Travel View Hotel in Gombe, attended by government officials, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and health experts.

The project addresses the significant public health challenge of malnutrition in Nigeria, particularly in Gombe, where issues such as stunting, wasting, and micronutrient deficiencies persist. The UNICEF Chief of Field Officer praised the Gombe state government for its ongoing investments in maternal and child health and its collaboration with development partners, emphasizing the commitment to ensuring that every mother and child in Gombe has the opportunity to thrive.
