UNICEF Urges Lagos to Enhance Child Health Campaign

On Thursday, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) called on the Lagos State Government to maintain investments in child nutrition and ensure that every child under five is reached during the Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW). At the campaign's official launch at the Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Secretariat, UNICEF Chief of Office, Lagos, Celine Lafoucriere, highlighted that around three million children in Lagos rely on timely nutrition and healthcare interventions.

She commended Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, for her leadership in child health initiatives.

Lafoucriere noted that health workers would administer Vitamin A supplements, deworming tablets, and screen for malnutrition during the week-long campaign. UNICEF provided necessary supplements and support for community mobilization.

She emphasized that government commitment is crucial for the campaign's success and praised the Lagos State Government for releasing N156 million last year for child nutrition. Lafoucriere urged the government to ensure the second round of the MNCHW occurs before November's end.
