UNICEF Launches Malaria Vaccination Campaign in Bauchi

UNICEF has initiated a malaria vaccination campaign in Bauchi State, providing 350 doses of malaria vaccine along with logistical support for the implementation of the campaign. The announcement was made by Dr.

Nuzhat Rafiqu, Chief Field Officer of UNICEF in Bauchi, during the official flag-off event attended by Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, the First Lady of Bauchi State, on Thursday. The campaign aims to vaccinate 280,000 children aged between 5 and 15 months, with the vaccination schedule consisting of four doses: the first two doses administered one month apart, followed by the third and fourth doses six months apart.

Dr. Rafiqu highlighted the critical role of community support, particularly from traditional leaders, in ensuring the success of the vaccination campaign.

She also acknowledged the proactive leadership of the Bauchi State government and its commitment to improving maternal and child health. Dr.

Yarima Kucici from the World Health Organization underscored the importance of vaccination in preventing malaria, particularly in vulnerable populations in Bauchi.
