UNICEF Advocates for Masaki Programme Expansion in Jigawa

UNICEF has called for the expansion of the Masaki programme, which focuses on Nutrition Food Production through locally available food, to all 27 local government areas of Jigawa State. Judith Leveillee, UNICEF Chief of Field Operations and Emergency in Nigeria, made this call during her inspection visit to a Masaki food demonstration at Zangon Buluntu village in Ringim Local Government Area.

Leveillee described the Masaki programme as a “golden opportunity” for improving health and nutrition, particularly during the critical first 1,000 days of a child's life. Currently implemented in three local government areas, the programme provides weekly services at the ward level, facilitating access to antenatal and postnatal care, nutrition services, and health education.

Leveillee emphasized the importance of improving sanitation among vulnerable households and commended the efforts of the Jigawa State Government and other stakeholders in enhancing the wellbeing of women and children. She urged for strengthened collaboration to expand the programme further.
