UNILAG VC Calls for Stronger UK-Nigeria Academic Ties

Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), called for deeper academic collaboration between Nigeria and the United Kingdom during an event at the Faculty of Social Sciences. She highlighted the need for equitable global partnerships to tackle socio-economic and educational challenges faced by both nations.

Ogunsola noted that Nigeria and the UK confront similar pressures in public service and education infrastructure, despite differing perspectives. She pointed out the rapid growth of Nigeria's youth population, which places immense pressure on the education system.

Ogunsola emphasized the importance of mutual respect and shared agendas in partnerships, criticizing traditional North-South collaborations that often prioritize Northern interests. She also addressed the evolving role of education in light of technological advancements and the need for social sciences to understand the impact of technology on human behavior.

Prof. Lari Kramer from the London School of Economics supported Ogunsola's views, stressing the importance of preserving social responsibility in university education.
