Unilorin SSANU and NASU Launch Indefinite Strike Action

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) at the University of Ilorin initiated an indefinite strike on May 1, 2026, following the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the federal government. The strike, led by SSANU chapter chairman Prof.

Falowo Olushola, is a response to the government's failure to conclude negotiations and implement the 2009 agreement concerning non-teaching staff. The unions demand a 45% salary increment, rejecting a proposed 30%.

The unions have expressed frustration over the government's inaction, highlighting that non-teaching staff have been marginalized despite their critical role in university administration. Suberu Ibrahim, chairman of NASU at the University of Ilorin, emphasized the ongoing issues, including salary arrears dating back to 2022.

The strike aims to disrupt university operations significantly, urging the government to act promptly to avoid further impact on students and staff.
