Youths Protest Police Killing of UNIPORT Graduate Anthony
On Friday, residents reported that police personnel at Agip junction/Ada George shot Anthony, a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), who was awaiting his call-up letter from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Anthony was driving a vehicle used for his transport service to save money for his planned NYSC.
When police attempted to stop the bus he was driving and demanded money, Anthony stated he had none and was unaware he was being pursued. A policeman from the patrol team allegedly shot him, resulting in a stray bullet injuring a POS operator nearby.
The injured, including passengers from the bus, were taken to Palmas Hospital for emergency care, where Anthony was confirmed dead. In response, local youths protested, calling for the arrest and prosecution of the police officer who fired the fatal shot.
