Uniport to Graduate 8,156 Students in June Convocation

The University of Port Harcourt (Uniport) is set to convene its 36th combined convocation ceremony on June 5-6, 2023, where a total of 8,156 graduands will be recognized. Among them, 120 students will receive first-class degrees.

Vice Chancellor Professor Owunari Georgewill disclosed these details during a media briefing, highlighting that 5,822 will receive first degree certificates, 510 will obtain postgraduate diplomas, 1,386 will earn master's degrees, and 438 will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy certificates. The event will commence with a tree planting ceremony and will include a dinner for the best graduating student, a research fair, and a fireside chat.

Georgewill noted that the university, established in 1975, has made significant advancements in infrastructure and academic excellence, supported by government initiatives. However, he also mentioned challenges such as land encroachment and a shortage of hostel accommodations, emphasizing the need for further development and support.
