University of Abuja Graduates 17,300 Students in Convocation

The University of Abuja conducted a combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, graduating a total of 17,300 students across multiple academic sessions. The event featured the conferral of honorary doctorates on distinguished Nigerians: Paul Odili, Professor Yusuf Ali, and Emmanuel Iza, recognizing their contributions to national development.

Vice Chancellor Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi highlighted significant transformations at the university aimed at enhancing academic excellence and research capacity. The 29th convocation for the 2022/2023 session produced 7,158 graduates, including 48 first-class degrees, while the 30th convocation for the 2023/2024 session saw 5,466 students graduate, with 29 achieving first-class honors.

The university has also awarded degrees to 4,573 postgraduate students. Fawehinmi urged graduates to maintain integrity and strong character, emphasizing their role as ambassadors of the university.

The ceremony underscored ongoing infrastructural developments, including a new Senate chamber, modern research laboratories, and improved campus facilities.
