UNN Security Arrests Teachers After PDP Campaign Visit

On June 15, 2026, security personnel from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, allegedly arrested three secondary school teachers, including Mr. Lawrence Oko, after a political campaign visit involving members of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

The incident occurred shortly after the PDP campaign officials concluded their engagement ahead of the June 20 Enugu North senatorial district election. Dr.

Nestor Ezem, the PDP candidate, was accompanied by Chief Uch Geoffrey Nnaji, the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 Enugu State governorship election. Sources indicate that the teachers were taken into custody as security personnel attempted to identify individuals involved in organizing the meeting.

Allegations arose that the teachers were asked to write statements while in custody, although the content of these statements could not be independently verified. Staff members questioned the rationale behind the arrests, noting that previous visits by various political parties to the university community had not resulted in similar incidents.

The university's management has not issued an official statement regarding the incident.
