Bus Fire Injures Six Commuters on Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos

A commercial bus caught fire on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos Waterfront, causing heavy traffic congestion and injuring six commuters. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) spokesperson, Adebayo Taofiq, stated that the accident involved a fully laden commercial bus transporting passengers and household goods.

The mechanical failure led to the driver losing control, resulting in the bus capsizing and catching fire. Six passengers sustained serious injuries and were promptly extricated from the wreckage by LASTMA personnel.

The injured were taken to the hospital for treatment, with the Lagos State Ambulance Service providing immediate medical attention on-site. The Lagos State government expressed sympathy for the victims and emphasized the importance of road safety, urging commercial drivers to prioritize safety and avoid overloading vehicles.

Emergency responders successfully extinguished the fire and gradually restored traffic flow on the bridge.
