Urban Alert Demands Transparency on Osun Mining Deal

Urban Alert, a civic-technology organization, has called on the Osun State Government to publicly disclose the full terms of a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) signed with the Critical Minerals Financing Corporation Plc (CMFC) on August 11, 2026, at Bola Ige House. The Special Adviser to the Governor on Mineral Resources, Prof. Lukman Jimoda, executed the agreement.

Urban Alert warns that the secrecy surrounding the deal breaches national transparency standards and Nigeria's obligations under the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). The organization criticized the lack of public information regarding financial figures, equity or revenue-sharing arrangements, and targeted mining locations.

Urban Alert highlighted concerns about CMFC's financial status and the potential negative impact of the NDA on host communities suffering from illegal mining and environmental issues. The group has outlined demands for the government, including the publication of the NDA's core commercial terms under the Freedom of Information Act 2011.
