Akwa Ibom Government Unveils New Urua Ekpa Road

On September 21, the Akwa Ibom State Government commissioned the reconstructed 2.07-kilometre Urua Ekpa Road in Itu Local Government Area, which includes a 1.4-kilometre underground drainage system. This project was part of the 39th anniversary celebrations of Akwa Ibom State and aims to reposition Itu as a major economic gateway.

Previously, the road was notorious for flooding and poor conditions, which had displaced over 1,000 residents and forced the Village Head of Ikot Obio Atai, Ete Idung Mkpong Okon Mkpong, to relocate. Governor Umo Eno, represented by Secretary to the State Government Prince Enobong Uwah, stated that the reconstruction would enhance economic activities and improve residents' livelihoods.

Prof. Eno Ibanga, the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, noted the transformation of the road from a decade-long impassable state to a functional infrastructure, contributing to improved connectivity and economic growth in the area.
