Qatar Partially Reopens Airspace Amid Regional Tensions

Qatar's Civil Aviation Authority announced a partial resumption of airspace operations on March 7, 2023, in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East due to US-Israel strikes and Iranian retaliatory missile and drone attacks. The announcement includes operational limits on the number of flights, focusing on evacuating stranded passengers and facilitating air cargo operations.

Hamad International Airport, Qatar's main airport, confirmed that additional flights would be subject to ongoing security assessments. The Qatar Defence Minister stated that the territory had successfully intercepted ten Iranian drones, with nine being neutralized without causing casualties.

This development comes as the Gulf state navigates a complex security landscape, previously considered one of the safest holiday destinations in the region.
