U.S. Military Advisers Arrive in Bauchi for Counterterrorism

The arrival of approximately 100 U.S. military personnel at Bauchi airfield marks a significant step in Nigeria's efforts to strengthen its counterterrorism capabilities. This deployment, announced by Chuk Oyema Aziken from the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), follows a formal request from the Nigerian government for military training and technical assistance.

Major General Samaila Uba, the director of defense information, described the planned outcomes of earlier engagements between Nigerian and U.S. defense officials during a bilateral work group meeting. The U.S. personnel will operate strictly in an advisory capacity, with no involvement in combat operations, and will work under the direct control of the Nigerian government.

The collaboration aims to enhance Nigeria's ability to confront terrorist threats and improve the protection of vulnerable communities across the country. Nigerian troops are expected to commence a series of joint training exercises focusing on intelligence sharing and counter-terrorism tactics.

The military remains committed to degrading and ultimately defeating terrorist groups that threaten Nigeria's sovereignty.
