U.S. Military Personnel Arrive in Nigeria for Training

On February 17, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria confirmed the arrival of 100 U.S. military personnel to assist in military operations without compromising the country's sovereignty. Maj Gen Samaila Uba, the Director of Defence Information, stated that the deployment follows discussions between Nigerian and U.S. military delegations.

Maj Gen Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, emphasized that the U.S. support is focused on training Nigerian troops to enhance ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. He reassured the public that Nigeria's territorial integrity and sovereignty are intact, and no aspect of the country's sovereignty is compromised by this collaboration.

The U.S. personnel will primarily engage in training programs similar to those Nigerian officers undergo abroad. The DHQ noted that recent cooperation has yielded positive outcomes, and the military leadership is taking necessary steps to prevent further attacks.

Additionally, the DHQ acknowledged public concerns regarding security developments and the need for a review of the de-radicalization program for surrendered insurgents.
