U.S. Military Equipment Delivery Strengthens Nigeria's Security

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced the delivery of military equipment from the United States to the Nigerian Air Force, marking a significant step in the expanding security partnership between Nigeria and the U.S. This delivery was made by a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft last weekend under a foreign military sales agreement.

Onanuga noted that the equipment was received in Lagos and Kainji, emphasizing that U.S. military support is provided at the invitation of the Nigerian government and respects the country's sovereignty. This delivery follows recent military cooperation, including unmanned aerial system training conducted in Bauchi, which involved training, advisory support, and intelligence sharing.

The partnership has intensified in 2026, focusing on counterterrorism and defense collaboration. In May, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu engaged in high-level discussions in Washington to strengthen this partnership, which included coordinated operations against Islamic State elements in the Lake Chad Basin.
