US Lists 10 African Nations Eligible for E-2 Visa

The US Department of State has published a list of 10 African countries eligible for E-1 treaty trader and E-2 treaty investor visas, which facilitate entry into the United States for trading or investment purposes. The countries listed are Cameroon (E-2, effective April 6, 1989), Congo (Brazzaville) (E-2, effective August 13, 1994), Congo (Kinshasa) (E-2, effective July 28, 1989), Egypt (E-2, effective June 27, 1992), Ethiopia (E-1 and E-2, effective October 8, 1953), Liberia (E-1 and E-2, effective November 21, 1939), Morocco (E-2, effective May 29, 1991), Senegal (E-2, effective October 25, 1990), Togo (E-1 and E-2, effective February 5, 1967), and Tunisia (E-2, effective February 7, 1993).

The E-2 visa allows nationals to work in the US based on substantial investments, while the E-1 visa is for significant trade. Ethiopia, Liberia, and Togo can qualify under both categories, whereas the remaining seven countries are limited to E-2 status.

Notably, major economies like Ghana, South Africa, and Kenya are not included in this treaty list.
