US Suspends Work Visas for Nigerian and Foreign Truck Drivers Over Safety Concerns

The United States government has announced the suspension of work visas for Nigerian and foreign truck drivers due to safety concerns. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed the immediate suspension, citing the threat to the safety of American citizens and the job opportunities of local truckers.

This move is part of President Trump's renewed immigration clampdown since taking office in January 2025. The suspension aims to address the increasing number of foreign drivers operating large trucks on American roads, endangering lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers.

Additionally, the US Embassy in Nigeria has directed visa applicants to disclose their social media usernames used in the past five years, failure to provide this information could result in visa rejection or future ineligibility. The new policy also includes a pilot program to ensure travelers exit the country before their visa expires.
