Ekiti Lawmaker Urges Responsible AI Use Among Students

On Friday in Abuja, Kolawole Akinlayo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti North II Federal Constituency, cautioned Nigerian students against excessive reliance on artificial intelligence and digital learning tools. He warned that misuse of these technologies could undermine academic excellence and weaken critical thinking abilities.

Akinlayo emphasized that while AI can be beneficial, it should not replace traditional learning methods such as attending lectures and taking notes. He linked the misuse of digital tools to poor moral upbringing and urged parents to ensure proper training for their children.

During the event, he also introduced a scholarship program offering an additional N100,000 incentive for students achieving a CGPA of 3.5 and above. The event was part of the National Association of Nigerian Students' Excellence Leadership Service Community Impact Award, where Akinlayo was recognized for his exemplary leadership and commitment to supporting student welfare.
