TCN Reports Collapse of Five Towers Due to Vandalism

Five transmission towers (N9, N10, N11, N12, N13, and N15) along the Ikot Abasi-Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line collapsed after vandals removed and stole critical structural components. This extensive damage was discovered during a routine patrol by Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) linesmen.

Preliminary assessments indicated that structural bracing members had been taken from the affected towers, compromising their integrity. Additionally, inspections revealed that seven other towers along the corridor had also been vandalized.

TCN stated that urgent remedial action is necessary to prevent further collapses. In response to the incident, TCN has reconfigured the network to prioritize electricity supply from Ibom Power to mitigate the impact on consumers.

The company is mobilizing an urgent intervention to reconstruct the damaged sections and has involved security agencies to support investigations and prevent future vandalism. TCN condemned the act as sabotage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a reliable national transmission grid.
