Promote Forest Governance to Combat Rural Poverty

During the 18th inaugural lecture at Prince Abubakar Audu University in Anyigba, Professor Adesola Ogidiolu, a geography professor, called on the Nigerian federal government to promote good forest governance and eliminate poverty in rural communities dependent on forest resources. He highlighted the importance of sustainable management of forest ecosystems and urged the government to address administrative bottlenecks that hinder effective forest management.

Ogidiolu recommended that geography be made a core subject in early education to enhance awareness and understanding of environmental issues. He proposed various conservation measures, including reforestation and the adoption of best silvicultural practices, to combat deforestation and mitigate climate change.

The lecture was welcomed by the new Vice Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman, who noted its significance in fostering intellectual discourse and scholarship within the institution.
