VSCN Calls for U.S. to Lift Sanctions on Venezuela

The Venezuela Solidarity Campaign Nigeria (VSCN), coordinated by Comrad Dimeji Macaulay, has issued a statement urging the United States to lift sanctions on Venezuela after twin earthquakes reportedly killed 2,000 people and displaced 50,000 others. The group described the earthquakes as a humanitarian tragedy that caused widespread destruction to homes, hospitals, schools, and critical infrastructure.

VSCN expressed condolences to the victims' families and praised the resilience of the Venezuelan people in facing the disaster amid ongoing economic hardships. The organization argues that U.S. sanctions weaken Venezuela's capacity to respond effectively to emergencies, limit access to financial resources, and restrict the import of essential medical equipment and materials.

They called for the permanent removal of sanctions to facilitate relief operations and long-term reconstruction, asserting that maintaining economic blockades against Venezuela lacks moral or legal justification. VSCN also appealed to the African Union and the United Nations to intensify humanitarian assistance and ensure that sanctions do not obstruct relief efforts.
