Abia Governor Otti Unveils Energy Roadmap for State's Independence

Abia State Governor Alex Otti announced the state's energy roadmap to achieve total energy sufficiency and insulate itself from national power failures. Otti revealed plans to invest in renewable energy projects, including a biogas pilot program at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture in Umudike.

Abia State has taken regulatory control of its electricity market, aiming to ensure energy independence and stability, particularly in Umuahia. The state has offered to acquire assets from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to enhance its power provision capabilities.

Otti emphasized the importance of localizing power assets to prevent disruptions like recent national grid collapses. The governor's initiatives aim to secure reliable power supply within Abia State, especially in areas like Aba, to prevent widespread blackouts.
