Abia Governor Launches Waste-to-Energy Project to Boost Electricity Supply

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has introduced a Waste-to-Energy project aimed at improving electricity supply in the state and mitigating the impact of national grid failures. By converting organic waste into renewable energy through biogas, the state is now able to power various areas, especially Umuahia.

Governor Otti revealed that the state is no longer experiencing power failures caused by the frequent collapse of the national grid. The state government is no longer fully under the supervision of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and has negotiated with the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) to handle power distribution in Abia as part of a pilot program.

This initiative seeks to enhance efficiency, achieve energy independence, and provide a sustainable power source for the state.
