ADC Protest in Abuja Amid Leadership Crisis and Divisions

Supporters of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) gathered in Abuja on Wednesday to protest amid a prolonged leadership dispute within the party. Expected participants included former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The protest comes as tensions rise due to a crisis involving the party's leadership, exacerbated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrawing recognition of David Mark as the party's national chairman. This situation has led to a split within the ADC, with reports of a third faction emerging, deepening divisions among party members.

Mark's faction is engaged in a fierce struggle for control against a rival group led by former Deputy National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gomb. Additionally, Dumebi Kachukwu, a former ADC presidential candidate, announced the formation of a national caretaker committee backed by state chairmen to oversee the party's affairs until the crisis is resolved.

The ADC now appears divided into three competing factions claiming legitimacy over the party's leadership.
