Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Defects to APC from PDP

On a Monday, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State and his Deputy, Mani Mummuni, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This political transition was marked by a ceremony where the PDP banner was removed and the APC flag was hoisted at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

The event was captured in a video shared by user Imran Muhdz, showing security personnel overseeing the orderly removal of the PDP flag. Governor Lawal's media aide, Nuhu Anka, confirmed the defection, stating that it followed extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders across the state.

The governor emphasized the importance of this move for the stability and development of Zamfara State. Lawal is also expected to seek re-election in the 2027 general elections.

This defection further consolidates APC's control, now governing at least 31 of Nigeria's 36 states, particularly in the North West geopolitical zone.
