Nigerian Lawmaker Caught Off Guard in Viral Video

Maureen Chinw Gwacham, a member of the Progress Grand Alliance, became the subject of widespread social media criticism after a video surfaced showing her seconding a motion during a plenary session without being able to explain its details. Gwacham clarified that she was caught off guard, having just returned to her seat when she was called upon to second the motion.

The motion, proposed by Muktar Tolani Shagaya, aimed at the urgent deployment of automated external defibrillators in public institutions to prevent deaths and ensure access to emergency life-saving equipment. Gwacham expressed her surprise at the unexpected call and stated that her decision to second the motion was based on her confidence in its sponsor rather than her prior knowledge of its content.

She reaffirmed her commitment to her legislative duties and expressed appreciation for the concerns raised by her constituents, emphasizing that the incident does not reflect her dedication to her responsibilities.
