Five Arrested for Open Defecation in Lagos Island

On Thursday, during an early morning operation, five individuals were apprehended for open defecation in the Ebutero area of Lagos Island. This operation was conducted by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, under the direction of Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

The enforcement team, part of the anti-open defecation squad, aims to address environmental nuisances and improve sanitation across the state. Following their arrest, the individuals were taken to the headquarters of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps in Oshodi for further investigation and prosecution according to existing laws.

The Lagos State government has previously warned residents and visitors against open defecation, having arrested at least 275 individuals across various parts of the state for defecating in public places, despite the availability of 8,710 functional public toilets.
