Tinubu's Key Financial Role in Buhari's 2015 Campaign

In an interview on Symfoni TV, Babachir Lawal, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, detailed President Bola Tinubu's significant financial contributions to Muhammadu Buhari's 2015 presidential campaign. Lawal stated that Tinubu funded key campaign activities from his personal wealth, including the independent campaign efforts of then-vice presidential candidate Yemi Osinbajo.

He noted that Tinubu financed Osinbajo's outreach to specific demographics, employing chartered planes for mobility. This strategy aimed to address concerns among Christian voters and other ethnic groups regarding Buhari's candidacy.

Lawal also alleged that Tinubu engaged high-profile American political consultants, spending over two billion naira to enhance the campaign's strategy. He emphasized that Tinubu often bypassed the APC's central treasury for significant expenditures, demonstrating his financial commitment to the party's electoral success.

Lawal recounted his role in facilitating the merger talks between the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Tinubu's Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) due to his close relationship with Tinubu.
