MMA2 Parking Fee Hike Aimed at Curbing Abuse, Not Revenue

Yinka Olawuyi, spokesperson for Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2), stated that the recent increase in parking fees is not intended to generate revenue but to address the misuse of short-stay parking facilities. This review became necessary due to the significant abuse where motorists were converting short-stay parking into long-term storage, with reports of up to 300 vehicles parked overnight, some abandoned for as long as six months.

The situation has worsened overcrowding in the terminal's drop-off zone, making it difficult for passengers to access the airport. The management aims to restore the original purpose of the short-stay parking, which is to facilitate quick access to the terminal.

MMA2 has been operational for nearly 19 years, focusing on providing a seamless and secure environment for passengers. The new parking fees have sparked public outrage, with commuters describing the rates as excessive and exploitative.
