NYC Mayor Says He Can't Arrest Netanyahu Despite ICC Warrant

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged that his administration lacks the legal authority to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits the city, despite supporting the International Criminal Court's (ICC) warrant for his arrest. In a video statement, Mamdani explained that his administration explored all legal options but concluded that New York City could not execute the ICC warrant.

He urged the U.S. federal government to take action, asserting that it has the legal power to enforce the warrant. Mamdani accused Netanyahu of being responsible for the deaths of over 73,000 Palestinians, attacks on hospitals and aid workers, and obstructing humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

He referenced a recent United Nations report alleging that Israeli armed forces continued to target Palestinian children months after a ceasefire. Mamdani labeled Netanyahu a war criminal and stated that he is not welcome in New York City, emphasizing the need for accountability regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
