Nigerian Man Jailed 13 Months for Dangerous Driving in UK

Michael Chiedu Nwanze, a 23-year-old Nigerian man, was sentenced to 13 months’ imprisonment by Northampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and failing to stop for police. The incident occurred on March 10, when Northamptonshire Police attempted to stop Nwanze due to his vehicle being flagged as uninsured.

Instead of complying, he accelerated, weaving through Northampton streets and joining the A45, where he drove at speeds of up to 70mph in 40mph zones and exceeded 100mph on the dual carriageway. His reckless driving endangered other motorists and pedestrians.

The chase ended near the Wilby Way roundabout when he became trapped in traffic and crashed into several vehicles. PC Thomas Williams, the investigating officer, condemned Nwanze's actions as showing a complete disregard for safety.

Nwanze was sentenced in June after his guilty plea in April.
