Hijab Removal Incident at Ibadan JAMB Center Raises Concerns

A video shared by user Alfa Shehu has sparked concern regarding the treatment of female candidates at a JAMB center in Ibadan, Oyo State. The footage shows a female candidate, identified as Esther Oshikoya, being asked to remove her hijab before she could enter the examination premises.

This action has been interpreted as a violation of the candidate's constitutional right to religious freedom, as JAMB's own guidelines permit the wearing of hijabs during examinations. The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria's Akinyele Area Council has alleged that security personnel at the center prevented candidates from entering while wearing hijabs.

As of the time of reporting, JAMB had not issued an official statement regarding the incident. The examination is set to commence nationwide on Thursday, with two million candidates expected to participate.
