Peter Obi Attends Archbishop Akubeze’s Funeral in Edo

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, arrived in Edo State to participate in the funeral rites of the late Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City, Most Rev. Augustine Akubeze. His arrival was captured in a video shared on Wednesday by his official campaign photographer and media aide, Esther Umoh.

The video depicted Obi surrounded by a large crowd and security personnel as he arrived at the Holy Cross Cathedral in Benin City for the service of songs honoring the late archbishop. The Catholic Archdiocese of Benin City had organized a special period of Masses and prayers in tribute to Akubeze, including a vigil Mass at the Holy Cross Cathedral on Wednesday and several Masses throughout the night.

The funeral program continued on Thursday at St Paul Catholic Church, Airport Road, Benin City, featuring a lying-in-state from 7 am to 8:45 am, followed by the Office for the Dead at 9 am and the Funeral Mass at 10 am. Akubeze was remembered as a humble and committed servant of God who positively impacted many lives through his ministry.
