Tinubu's Congratulation to Adeleke Shows Democratic Growth

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu remarked that President Bola Tinubu's decision to congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke following the APC's defeat in the August 15 Osun governorship election is indicative of Nigeria's democratic growth. Speaking at the seventh annual lecture of Freedom Online, Sanwo-Olu noted that the APC candidate lost to Adeleke, who won by over 60,000 votes.

He emphasized that Tinubu did not contest the election results but instead congratulated Adeleke the next day, urging him to unite the state and thanking INEC and security agencies for a peaceful election. Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of this event, stating it demonstrated that a ruling party could lose an election in the South-West without federal interference, marking a shift from past practices.

He described Tinubu as a lifelong democrat committed to strengthening Nigeria's democratic system for future generations.
