Tinubu Returns to Lagos After UK State Visit

President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu departed London for Lagos on Thursday evening, concluding their state visit to the United Kingdom, which took place from March 18 to March 19, 2026. The visit was hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.

Upon arrival in London on Tuesday, the presidential couple received a ceremonial welcome, which included a carriage procession to meet the royal family. During the visit, President Tinubu engaged in high-level bilateral discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focusing on strengthening ties between Nigeria and Britain.

A notable outcome of the visit was the signing of a £746 million financial agreement involving UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Port Authority, facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Finance. This marks the first visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK since 1989 and the first since Nigeria's return to civilian rule in 1999.
