Tinubu's Historic State Visit to the UK Begins Tuesday

President Bola Tinubu is set to commence a state visit to the United Kingdom on Tuesday, March 18-19, 2023, following an invitation from King Charles III and Queen Camilla. This visit, which marks the first by a Nigerian leader in 37 years, aims to enhance bilateral relations between Nigeria and the UK, focusing on immigration, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.

During the visit, Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu will be hosted by the British monarch at Windsor Castle, where they will view a special exhibit of items from the royal collection related to Nigeria. The visit will also include private discussions and interfaith dialogue engagements.

A significant aspect of the trip is the signing of a landmark £746 million financing deal between UK Export Finance and the Nigerian Port Authority to refurbish two major maritime infrastructures in Nigeria. Additionally, Tinubu is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where various memoranda of understanding covering trade, investment, defense, and cultural cooperation are expected to be signed.
