Vigilante Killed in Bandit Attack at Bauchi Game Reserve

On April 12, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM, a joint patrol team consisting of police officers and members of a local vigilante group was ambushed by armed bandits at the Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State. During the attack, Hambali Sa Adu, a 27-year-old member of the vigilante group from Mai Ari Village, sustained fatal gunshot wounds despite efforts to save him.

The Bauchi State Police Command expressed regret over his death, highlighting his bravery and commitment to community defense. The ambush led to a fierce gun battle, resulting in the death of the vigilante and the retreat of the bandits, four of whom were arrested and are currently in custody undergoing investigation.

The police urged local communities to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities. This incident marks a continuation of violent banditry in the region, recalling a previous attack in November 2025 that resulted in the deaths of five police officers.
