Visa Issues Delay Breel Embolo's Departure for World Cup

Breel Embolo, a forward for the Swiss national football team, faced a visa issue that prevented him from boarding a flight to the United States for the World Cup. The Swiss Football Federation announced that Embolo's ESTA application is currently under review, with updates expected soon.

He was scheduled to leave with the rest of the squad from Zurich to Los Angeles earlier today. The federation did not provide specific reasons for the visa review.

Embolo, 29, has previously faced disciplinary actions, including a suspension and a fine in April related to a threat made during a night out in Basel in 2018. He scored his 24th international goal in a recent friendly match against Jordan, contributing to Switzerland's 4-1 victory.

Switzerland's World Cup campaign begins on June 13 against Qatar, followed by matches against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Canada, with a final friendly against Australia scheduled before the tournament.
