Catholic Bishops Urge Tinubu on Mission Schools Return

On Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), led by its President, Most Rev. Matthew Man Oso Ndagoso, appealed for the return of mission schools to their original proprietors.

This request was reiterated from a previous meeting and is a key expectation from the Federal Government. The bishops also urged the government to ensure the constitutional right to freedom of religion is upheld, particularly regarding land acquisition for places of worship.

They highlighted that while Muslim students at Rivers State University have been affirmed their rights, Christians in northern Nigeria face challenges in exercising their faith. Additionally, the bishops expressed deep concern over Nigeria's worsening security situation, citing terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping as ongoing threats.

They commended the government for recent rescues but emphasized that such successes are isolated compared to the broader insecurity affecting communities.
