Visually-Impaired Applicants Allege Exclusion from Lagos Civil Service Employment

Visually-impaired applicants in Lagos, represented by the Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB), claim exclusion from civil service employment despite passing aptitude tests. The applicants participated in the recruitment exercise in October 2025 but were allegedly turned away during the physical screening stage without explanation.

The NAB expressed disappointment and accused the Lagos State Civil Service Commission of discrimination and neglect towards qualified visually impaired individuals. The association highlighted violations of disability rights laws and called for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene.

Despite efforts to ensure inclusivity, the ongoing exclusion of blind applicants raises concerns about fairness and equal opportunities in the recruitment process. The NAB emphasized the need for fair treatment, dignity, and the right to work for visually impaired individuals.

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Civil Service Commission have been urged to address the issue promptly.
