Atiku Abubakar Demands Investigation into Voter Data Leak

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President and presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party, has called for a full-scale investigation into a leak of voter information from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He expressed concerns over the legitimacy of access to the voter registration database, which he argues should be restricted to authorized personnel.

INEC has stated that the information was accessed through valid official credentials and denied any external hacking. However, Atiku contends that the absence of an external cyberattack does not mitigate the seriousness of the situation, raising questions about internal controls and the potential for political interference.

He also referenced comments made by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, regarding the 2027 presidential election, which he believes indicate a troubling mindset among certain political actors. Atiku demands that INEC disclose the complete chain of custody regarding the leaked information, emphasizing the need for public confidence in Nigeria's electoral institutions.
