Atiku Abubakar Demands INEC Explain Voter Database Breach

Atiku Abubakar, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide answers regarding unauthorized access to its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) database. This demand was made in a statement issued on Tuesday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, following concerns raised about the integrity of the electoral process.

INEC's chairman, Moham Haruna, disclosed that an investigation into the incident has been launched but maintained that there was no breach of its ICT infrastructure. Despite this, INEC admitted that sensitive voter information was accessed by individuals with valid official credentials without authorization.

Atiku emphasized that the situation raises serious concerns about INEC's internal controls and the potential for political interference. He insisted that Nigerians deserve to know how their voter data is stored and protected, arguing that the absence of external hacking does not diminish the seriousness of the matter.
