INEC Postpones Voter Revalidation Until After 2027 Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. This decision was reached during a meeting on Friday, where INEC Chairman Moham Haruna informed the voter education committee about the resolution. The commission explained that the voter revalidation exercise is crucial for maintaining an accurate and credible national voter register, allowing registered voters to verify and update their details. Despite the postponement, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections. A letter dated April 4, signed by Secretary Rose Oriaran Anthony, directed the Resident Electoral Commission to suspend public arrangements for the voter revalidation exercise and to prepare for its eventual commencement. INEC expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by this change and assured that it would consider previous announcements regarding the voter revalidation drive, which was initially scheduled to start on April 13, 2026.
