Shettima: FG to Enhance Humanitarian Engagements

On Tuesday, Vice President Kashim Shettima reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to addressing humanitarian issues across Nigeria by engaging more with critical stakeholders, including development partners. This statement was made during a courtesy visit from Dori El Doueihi, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Shettima emphasized the administration's resolve under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to tackle humanitarian challenges and welcomed the proposal to establish a national mechanism for humanitarian response, particularly for managing the plight of victims of armed conflict. He acknowledged the ICRC's professional commitment to peace and justice in conflict-affected areas.

El Doueihi commended Nigeria's adherence to the Kampala Convention for the protection and assistance of internally displaced persons and described the country as a model for others in Africa. The visit also included discussions on advancing humanitarian support in conflict zones, health, water, and security personnel training.
