Shettima Affirms Nigeria's Commitment to Citizens' Rights

On a recent occasion in Abuja, Vice President Kashim Shettima reassured Nigerians of the federal government's unwavering commitment to safeguarding citizens' rights under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu. This statement was made during the 2026 high-level dialogue of the Nigerian Committee on International Humanitarian Law (NCIHL).

Shettima highlighted the government's determination to establish a legal framework to address Nigeria's current security challenges and implement international treaties effectively. He commended Attorney General and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi for his leadership in legal reforms, noting his significant contributions to advancing justice in Nigeria.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also emphasized the importance of legislative action in aligning Nigeria's legal commitments with international humanitarian standards. Fagbemi discussed recent legislative achievements, including the Anti-Torture Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, which aim to enhance Nigeria's justice system and ensure compliance with international human rights standards.
