Court Fines Wabara-Led PDP N140m for Frivolous Suit

The Federal High Court in Abuja imposed a N140 million fine on the Adolphus Wabara-led Board of Trustees of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for filing a frivolous lawsuit against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The judgment, delivered by Justice Salim Ibrahim on Friday, dismissed the suit in its entirety, ruling that it lacked merit and amounted to an abuse of court process.

The Wabara-led board sought to compel INEC to recognize a faction of the PDP led by Kabiru Turaki, arguing that INEC's records should reflect this faction. However, the court rejected this request, stating that the dispute was purely an internal matter of the PDP and fell outside its jurisdiction.

Justice Ibrahim further ruled that the plaintiffs failed to establish a legal basis for the relief sought. The court's decision also upheld a previous ruling recognizing the leadership of the Abdulrahman faction of the PDP, marking a significant setback for the Wabara-Turaki faction amid ongoing internal divisions within the party.
